The Lighter Side
The Lighter Side of David Osborne

For those of you looking for something a little less depressing or troubling than some of the stuff you might find in my rants, this is the place.

These also are original writings of mine. Many took the form of letters I wrote to my wife while I was in the Navy and away at sea, both before and after we got married. She always enjoyed my writing, and I got tired of writing the usual "Hi, how are you, another boring day in the middle of the ocean" kind of thing. So, often I would write her a little story surrounding memories I had or dreams and plans we had together.

Miscellaneous Commentary and Letters

  • The letter that started it all - You've asked what you can send me while I'm on cruise; those things which I want but cannot get while on the ship thousands of miles away. The list was fairly easy to write. I suspect that it won't be so easy to fill the order.
  • A morning straight out of childhood - I'd like to share this morning with you; it's a morning made to be shared. I walked out into my backyard to finish digging a garden . . .
  • A fishing story - Okay guys, I kind of need some help here. About a year ago, while I was stationed on the ship, my wife's niece and nephew came to live with us.
  • Moonlight canoeing - Under the light of a full moon, I walk through the sparse woods to the bank of the river. The trees, though not thick, crowd right up to the bank and I'm forced to ease the canoe over a large root to set it in the water.
  • What have you taught your child today? - It's good that we've come to care about our planet, improving the world we leave for our children and protecting our resources. Unfortunately, all too often the resource that needs the most care, attention and protection doesn't get all we should be giving, and that resource is right under our noses: our children.
  • A Mother's Day letter - You are, and have been, an excellent MOTHER, in all senses of the word. That encompasses so much more than one word can describe. It starts when your child is just born, just an infant, and her multitude of needs and wants are expressed in a language that has defied scientists and psychologists for centuries.

  • Please browse through them and enjoy, but as always, all works are copyrighted and I ask that you leave them where you found them. If you want to share them with a friend or loved one, send them here.
